Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Agriculture is a cornerstone of Nigeria’s economy, particularly in rural areas like Ningi LGA, Bauchi State. Development journalism, which focuses on addressing societal challenges and empowering communities, can play a crucial role in promoting sustainable agricultural practices. By disseminating information on modern farming techniques, climate-resilient crops, and government policies, development journalism bridges the gap between stakeholders and farmers. Effective journalism not only enhances productivity but also ensures environmental sustainability by advocating for eco-friendly practices (Bello & Yusuf, 2023).
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the potential of development journalism to enhance sustainable agriculture, farmers in Ningi LGA often face challenges such as limited access to information, outdated practices, and environmental degradation. This study explores how development journalism can address these issues and empower farmers with the knowledge needed for sustainable agricultural development.
